Loooooooooooong time!

Hiya everyone! So sorry for  not blogging in a while! Been so hectic with all the Christmas parties and then the Christmas shopping and then I just pretty much went into hibernation mode from eating so much!!! Hope you all had a fantastic Christmas!

Okay, so quick Christmas party update! I've been left with such an ego boost! I found out that 5 guys (yes 5!!!!!) fancy me at work. Okay, we might all have been pretty drunk at the time but I'm just gonna take that one! lol! Nothing wrong with a little flattery, not matter how drunk the giver or recipient were.

One little confession though, there was a cheeky mistletoe-related kiss with one of said 5 people! It's so weird right, before this night, we'd always flirted but never anything serious and it kinda just upped itself a notch on the night. All in all, it was a great night! Considering how much we'd all had to drink (free bar - you know the drill...)

So glad I wasn't the girl who ended up being sick in the bathrooms though! I shudder to think of how awkward she felt the next time she had to go into the office.

Anyway, I've decided I have to blog more frequently! I've been really bad with blogging lately and I'm gonna try to do it more frequently. No matter how brief it is. That's my New year resolution... that and eat less cake... and exercise more... and drink less...

Later folks!

AND A HUGE HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!! ALL THE BEST IN 2012!

Last Minute Lola

Finally time for the main office Christmas party! I've been running around like a headless chicken all day trying to find an outfit to wear! Is it sad that I took a day off to look for an outfit for an office Christmas party? Probably...lol! But I refuse to have a repeat of what happened last time I was invited to a formal event. For anyone who missed it, just carry on scrolling till you hit the next post. Plus, this is my first time attending this specific party so I wanna make a good impression... at least until I've had a few glasses of bubbly (or white wine... truth be told, I'm not fussed about which one I get, I just need to kick back and have fun tonight!).

I'm gonna have to catch you all on the goings on later. Right now, I'm taking a quick break and then I'm going to look for shoes now. How do I manage to leave things till the last minute? Aacck!!!

Let the Christmas (party) season commence!!!

Hi folks,

This last week at work has been so stressful and busy but it’s the run up to Christmas and as you can imagine – the start of the many work (and personal) Christmas parties I’m due to attend. This time last year, I wasn’t exactly doing the most glamorous of jobs back in Wales (see here) so its fair to say the Christmas party I attended last year wasn’t as much a Christmas party as it was an excuse to get drunk and give my liver a good battering.

A bit of a sidetrack here but I just remembered that I’ve not even begun Christmas shopping yet. I do tend to leave it till the last minute anyway so there’s nothing out of the ordinary there but for some reason, I’m starting to stress about it. I say stress but it’s more like I remember every three days that I’ve still not started and I try to look on Amazon/Selfridges/Play.com and eventually get distracted by the shoes or bags, which I end up never buying. It’s a vicious cycle.

Anyway, after a stressful week, I was looking forward to one of many Christmas parties and it was going to be a laid back event with lots of friends and promised to be a good night. I showed up at the event which was pretty swanky in my old jeans, heels, and a Beatles shirt I got from a thrift shop in Camden and a nice little jacket (lazy and laid back – just how I like it! lol) and I felt like the bees knees… until I walked into the room and realised it was a black tie event! Oh the shame... *shakes head* I literally have no idea how this happened.

I’m not the kind of person that doesn’t take dress codes seriously and I even asked a few times this week about what the dress code for the event was! It was so cliché I just couldn’t help but laugh (not all out crazy laughter – more like an inside laughter) I already looked out of place standing at the entrance of the venue dressed like I was going to a concert or off to do my laundry - there was no way I was going to let people think I was crazy as well.

I looked at my invitation, which made no mention of a dress code thought it did mention a champagne reception and a nice 5 course meal. Retrospectively, the fact that it was a 5 course meal should have sent alarm bells ringing in my head but hey ho… After about a minute of laughing and trying to compose my self, I decided there was only one thing to do – go in there, have a great time and drink my faux pas away! I did get a few (okay, more than ‘a few’) strange looks but all in all, it ended up being a fantastic night!

These are a few of my favourite things...

Another instalment in “These are a few of my favourite things”.  So, without further ado, these are the things that are either rocking my world or that I aspire to get to rock my world. Not the most exciting or adventurous of lists but winter’s round the corner and its hibernation time! Hahaha!
1.) Nandos – You can beat that Piri piri chicken. I swear I practically drink the sauce everytime I go. And I always go extra hot as well!!! Partly because I like it (I love spicy food!!!) but also partly to prove to my friends that I can!

2.) Champagne – Especially free Champagne! Haha! I like the bubbles – not so much the hangover the next day if you’re fortunate (or unfortunate – I can decide which) to get drunk on it.
3.) Open fire – I love going back to the country side and snuggling in front of the fire place. It’s like my favourite place in the house at winter.
4.) The Inbetweeners – H-I-L-A-R-I-O-U-S!!! Amazing show! And I fancy two of the guys! Joe Thomas (who plays Simon – hubba hubba!!!) and Blake Harrison (who plays Neil). Another ‘don’t judge me’ moment here – I looked on Wikipedia and it turns out they’re actually older than me, so there. Haha!
5.) D&G Mini Bag – Fantastic on a night out! Stores the essentials – keys, mobile phone… you get the picture.
6.) Orchids – These are, without a doubt, my favourite flowers! Sorry but roses just don’t cut it with these bad boys around. They take ages to bloom but they’re so worth it!
7.) Archie comics – these are such a throw back to me growing up and I like them as much now as I did before! I just stock piled on almost 40 of them for Christmas time. (I did say it was hibernation time)

8.) Chanel Watch – such a classic design! I want one! So much… So, er…. if you wanna treat me to something nice for Christmas… * hint * * hint *
9.) Pugs – Sooooooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!!! Need I say more!

10.) John Lewis Christmas advert - This is one of my favourite things mostly because it totally took me by surprise! I’d ignored it initially till one day I was watching TV and stuffing my face my pizza and I watched it properly. I was crying by the end of it – and I assure you, I don’t cry that easily. Not with adverts anyway. Lol! I expected a different ending as well, which added to the surprise.

And that’s all folks! Catch you soon! xoxo

Halloween Lunch

Hey people! Happy Bonfire Night folks! Well technically, that isn’t till later in the day but hey ho….

Anyway, so last weekend, I went out for lunch with some kinda old definitely-semi-friends and we had a grand old time catching up on what we’ve all been up to. Actually, I say catching up but it was more like showing off. By the end of it, I was kinda exhausted because it felt like I had been in a strenuous competition to see who had done the most exciting stuff or achieved the most since we last saw each other. That is one lunch date I’m not gonna be rushing into again... lol!

So after the lunch date, I figured I’d indulge in some Halloween shopping. I went hunting for inspiration for my costume. I’m so last minute with these things and so I was going to go with the first thing I found. Last minute and lazy. Its Halloween for goodness sakes! Its not like you’re supposed to take it too seriously. I promise to get better with the shopping at Christmas!

Anyway, so I finally found a fancy dress shop (Ting-Ting-Ting Jackpot!!! I could get all I needed from one place instead of having to trawl through the whole of Westfield for different items). So I got some face-paint, a snow white costume and some contact lenses (I decided to go as an undead-yet-dead snow white – don’t judge, I know what a rubbish costume this seems like in theory but in my head, this would be an absolutely genius idea once all put together – after a vigorous backcombing of my hair of course!) Somewhere in between this:

And this:

Anyway, shopping done! Time to go home, chill out and then get ready for the party. On my way back, I noticed quite a few admiring stares from people and I was thinking, “Damn, my military wrap dress and hooker heels were really paying off” (all 6 inches of them! Okay, they’re not really hooker heels but that’s what I like to refer to them as). I pretended not to notice and yet was showing off for my admirers. I even put on my sunglasses so I could check out the people who were checking me out without them noticing that I was checking them out. (Oh please!!! LOL! Don’t judge me - I’m sure we’ve all checked out people behind our sunglasses, perfectly pleased that they couldn’t see that we were checking them out!)

Needless to say, by the time I got home, I was on a high – “Damn, I’m hot!” I was thinking…. Till I caught a reflection of myself in my sunglasses as I was taking them off. Turns out I had some face-paint smudged on my face the entire time (dear goodness, I really really REALLY hope it was face-paint!)… OH THE HORROR! Oh the shame….*shakes head* Fingers crossed people may have thought that I was dressed up early for Halloween? One can only hope! Haha! *shakes head*

Monday Morning Giggles

This had me giggling for ages! Like I said before, I’m very easily amused… Hehehe!

Time to say goodbye

Right, so I wasn’t sure about this last time I blogged but now it’s been confirmed. My neighbour/sex buddy (for some reason I cringe at the phrase ‘fuck buddy’ – it’s so cliché but there’s no avoiding it). Anyway, I digress – he’s moving back home due to visa issues. He might be back, he might not be – that’s all dependent on the visa.

This news kinda made me ‘re-evaluate’ our relationship as for me, there was no long term plan and hence I use the term relationship very loosely. Every day, you hear stories (or watch a movie) about some girl who had a platonic relationship which eventually becomes a romantic one. I can safely say, this is not the case here. I mean don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely a strong physical attraction there but truth be told, we’re just really good friends. We get along like a house on fire and I could spend hours and hours talking and hanging out with him but there’s no real ‘va-va-voom’.

Maybe I’m just being greedy or have unrealistic expectations but I really want excitement! The most excitement I’ve had lately is having too many cups of coffee and practically bouncing off the walls from my caffeine high. And I totally understand that the excitement might wane after several years of being together but I definitely think it makes for the start of a fantastic relationship.

Last month was fairly busy on the work front so I didn’t get to do much social stuff but I’ve got lots planned this month! I plan on going a little crazy and giving my liver a good work out! Hahaha!!!

Also, I think I have been signed up to do a charity skydive! I vaguely remember slurring out my consent at work drinks on Thursday. Funny how ideas seem so much better when you’re drunk. *shakes head* I’m terrified of heights but then again, I am looking to try new things and push my boundaries (and it is for a good cause)... I’m so conflicted!!! *sigh*

Anyway, back to my original point – he’s leaving! And it’s okay. I’m absolutely fine about it. We had a great time and I’ll miss hanging out with him but I’m definitely not heart- broken! All in all, it was a great summer distraction!

My bad habit

Just got wind of some rather distressing news today which I will share with you once its been totally confirmed (see, I told you I refuse to spread gossip – hehehe!). Okay, I’m totally being a drama queen here but I guess you can decide the severity of this “news” once you get to read what it is. I promise to post it up when it gets confirmed one way or the other…

In other news, I’ve just discovered an awful habit I have which has manifested itself from my constant travelling and it is embodied in two words – DUTY FREE. And no, it’s not what you think (i.e. constantly shopping); no! It’s ignoring the word DUTY and just seeing the FREE part! I swear I just go a bit too crazy when I get to duty free. I go on in and spray almost every single perfume I can lay my hands on – all in the name of trying it out and I only realised how bad this was getting when a child walked past me the other day and asked his dad what stank. Yes! I had overdosed on the perfumes  and smelt like a tart’s handbag! Worst thing was, until the child said that, I was going to go get more to try perfumes on! I’m so ashamed. So very ashamed…

I’m equally as bad with the face cream except in my own defence (and this is a weak excuse), I usually end up with my face weighing a few stones heavier (exaggeration but that’s how heavy it feels anyway – lol) and I get too uncomfortable and then I have to go and wash it all off! Which leaves me starting at Square one of a very vicious body lotion overdose cycle! Oh dear...*shakes head*

At first, I used to do it covertly (I always had a strangely irrational suspicion that the store attendants were going to tell me off if they knew what I was doing) but now I cant even be bothered to hide it! How did I get soooooooooooooooooo bad! HELP!!!

Catching Up

Oh dear! I promise to be a better blogger this month! Last month was mega hectic but this month looks mega promising! Just had to do a quick blog post to share a few things I’d been having fun with this week.

So, I guess everyone’s heard of The Sartorialist? For those who haven’t it’s a guy in New York who takes really beautiful pictures of fashionable people on the street and blogs about it. A Street Style/Street Fashion blog. Anyway, his blog is quite simple and is all about the photos (and I really like it) but I discovered something even better – The Catorialist! LMAO! It’s similar in style but it’s about cats and yeah my first thoughts were like “What?! A Blog about cats….er… No, thanks!” And then I had a look at it properly and it is hilarious!!! Loved it! It’s so funny because it’s a copycat version (pardon the pun!) of the Sartorialist.  Confused? Just have a look at the websites and it’ll make sense. :-)

Another thing I’ve been enjoying this week is MyneWhitman’s – A heart to mend which I downloaded via Amazon for my Kindle. Its such a lovely story and having grown up in Nigeria it holds an extra special meaning for me. Great read!!! And she’s a fellow blogger too! J

Right, I’m off to sleep!!! Will do another blog post very shortly – I hope! G’night!

Mega-Super-Duper Busy/Knackered

OH-DEAR-GOODNESS! I am the epitome of tired! I’ve been living out of the suitcase for the last week and working crazy hours hence the lack of blogging for which I apologise… profusely! For what its worth, here’s what I have called home for the last few weeks –
Seemed nice at first but after a few weeks of this, I am so sick and tired of this room! I need my own bed! *sob* lol!

I did get to go home over the weekend though (yaaaaay!) and I headed straight for the new Westfield Shopping centre in Stratford (I can’t help myself! I soooooo shoulda gone to bed…)
One thing’s for sure though – I NEED A DRINK!!!

Case of the ex

Hi everyone… September has been so hectic you would not believe!  So I mentioned in my last post (see here) that I was gonna be meeting up with my ex who was visiting London. Thankfully I was able to get out of work on time to meet up with him and it was a strangely surreal yet insightful experience. Basically, I haven’t seen him properly since I left Wales so I was worried it would be awkward and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was very far from this. We had a good catch up over dinner and it was so nice to hang out with him. I was having such a great time with him that I actually kinda started having slight “I-miss-you pangs”. When we were together we’d had such a laugh…*sigh*

After dinner we decided to go to a bar for a few drinks and on the walk over to the bar he broke the bombshell to me. He was engaged to be married. The girl is someone I knew from home, nice girl (the sort that would make a great wife – whatever that mean… *scratches head* lol). I was pleased for him (and her too, I guess). I congratulated him and did the usual spiel you do when a friend tells you they’re engaged… Wish them well….etc…Definitely not screaming out loud “Oh Damn!!! When will it be my turn!!!”…Hehehe! Truth be told, I’m not that fascinated with getting married soon. I will eventually but right now, I’m absolutely happy with where I am because its where I wanna be (that almost sounded like I was trying to convince myself! Lol!)

Anyway, as the evening progressed, we keep on swapping war stories about our little old town and then (get this!)… he leans in to kiss me. I SOOOOOOOO DIDN’T SEE THAT ONE COMING! I dodged the kiss like a turkey would (or rather, should) dodge the farmer at Christmas time. I simply refuse to be that girl. Don’t get me wrong, whatever anyone does with someone else is their prerogative (we’re all adults here) but it’s just not for me. The only married (or almost married) man I’d ever hook up with no guilt or regret would be Brad Pitt (Yes, after all these years I still have a HUGE crush on him. In fact, I think it’s bigger than a crush – he may just be the one. Lol! He’ll always have a special place in my heart… hehehehehe!)…. Lets all take a minute to enjoy his awesomeness…

Right, so where was I? Yeah, he tried to kiss me and I swear any “I-miss-you pangs” went in that instant. He’s a great lad but come on! I didn’t know whether to be insulted or flattered (insulted because he did exactly the same thing to me when we were together, flattered because well, I’m obviously so irresistible to him – LOL! I’m kidding!!!! I don’t have an ego that inflated!) Anyway, I made it very clear where I stood and that I wished him the best but he had to get his sh*t together. He went on and on about how confused he was seeing me here and having such a great time… bla bla bla! Honestly, I tuned out after a while (I have a special talent for tuning out!). I just don’t buy stories like that. Getting with someone else is not a way to sort out ones problem – in fact, it more than likely just adds to the problem. After a few minutes I made my excuses and left.

I have to admit, I did leave with a somewhat inappropriate sense of exhilaration – Good riddance, eh!!!

Oh and because this post wouldn’t be complete without a phone picture of what I had for dinner I had to add the picture below! Lol! Okay, it would have been complete but I’ve been eating healthy lately and I just had to show it off!!!

Catch ya later folks!

Festival and Cocktails

So I mentioned in my previous post (see here), that I was going to the Thames Festival in London (Yes, I did confirm that's what its actually called - The Thames Festival). It was fantastic! I found a new place that did two for one cocktails too! (I love finding fantastic cocktails on offer!) I had an amazing Strawberry Daiquiri while sat on the embankment, watching the procession which finished off with fireworks. Great (and not to mention - cheap) evening out in London! And I took some pictures - Warning: I took these with my phone and the quality is......er...not so good.
Till next time...

Lazy weekend

Oh-Dear-Goodness!!! *sigh* This has been another hectic week! I was so knackered by the Thursday, I actually said ‘Thank you’ to the coffee vending machine. In all fairness to me, this was preceded by a gargantuan fight against drowsiness, which eventually saw me head-butting my computer screen. Thankfully, I got to finish early on Friday but all I just wanted to do was go to sleep by the time I was done.

In other news, it’s the Thames Festival in London this weekend… at least, I think that’s what it’s called!. Well, whatever it’s a huge street party and I plan on breaking out of my pajamas this weekend and going into town to see what’s going on. I heard the fireworks last year were amazing and I’ve arranged a meeting with friends for drinks and dinner.

Also, I got a call of my old boyfriend, Thom (see here), turns out he’s heading to London for a couple of days next week and wants to meet up – and NO, not in the way you’re thinking, just as friends. I’m not one to hold grudges (too much effort!) though I will blame my sleep-drought this week on the fact that we’ll be meeting up for dinner when he’s in town. I’m starting to feel like a true Londoner now – showing the out-of-towners around. I’ll keep you all posted.
And No! There’ll be none of this…lol!

Love, Life and Amsterdam

Guess it’s about time I finally gave you guys an update on my neighbour/love-life situation, eh? (See last post here). It’s been so hectic at work lately and I’m ashamed to say this but asides the occasional meet up for food/drinks/sex/whatever, there’s not been much on that front. Totally my fault (or rather, my choice) - I’ve been so busy with work and I’m finally getting to travel lots with my job and as a result I’ve not had as much chance to actually commit properly to anything. He’s been pretty awesome though and I have a great time with him but there’s nothing ‘major’ happening there apart from both of us having a good time together – whenever I can fit that it (Hahaha! That makes me sound like such a self-important diva! I’m not! I swear!)

Also as you all might have noticed, I tend to be a typically happy-go-lucky kinda girl however I have just gotta gripe about a little pet hate I discovered this weekend - Overly confident drunk guys… lol! (keyword there being ‘drunk’!). So, I was out with work colleagues and after my experience the previous week (see post here), I figured I’d best stick to one drink and then grab some dinner. No workday hangovers for me, no sireee! So not worth the headache… literally! Anyway, seeing as there was no way one cocktail was gonna get me drunk, I was pretty sober and as a result, pretty observant that evening. Side note - my body has become so tolerant to alcohol which is pretty bad news for my purse methinks! I digress… At the first bar, there was a barmaid who was flirty with one of the guys on my team - she gave him a free pint and all. Everyone noticed and he got her number before we left –This moment was the creation of a monster! For the rest of the night he kept trying to chat up every single lady who served us (even in the restaurant) it was so unbelievably funny watching the uncomfortable waitresses squirming and trying to be polite while doing their best to get away. Worst thing was he was so drunk he didn’t seem to pick up on the fact that he was a one-hit wonder (and that one-hit had little to do with his ‘pick-up’ skills – the waitress went out of her way to get his attention). I know I’m not one to judge as I like a drink or two myself (make that ten... or twenty, hehehe!) but his oblivion to his faux pax was hilarious! This is definitely a pet-hate I can handle.

In other news though, I did get to go to Amsterdam this week. I loved every minute of it! Apparently, I get to go to other cities as well as part of the project I’m working on – can’t wait! I officially love my job!!! In usual tradition, I took a few photos…
Finished it off with some fantastic sea-food! Deeeeeeee-lish!

What do Adele, Sarah Jessica Parker and Lewis Hamilton have in common?

O-M-G! I’ve been so busy this week but I had an amazing end to my week! On Thursday I got to see Adele perform live (and for free!) and also Lewis Hamilton and Sarah Jessica Parker *faints*. Adele is so amazing live and she is so crazily funny! Lewis Hamilton seems like such a gentleman and SJP is such a doll! Also got to see Jonathan Ross (British TV Presenter) so if you’re pretty clever I’m sure you can already guess how and where I got to see them all! Jonathan is so funny too! Glad he's back on TV again! For those who don’t know who these people are (how?!!!) here are pictures below…(we weren't allowed to use our own cameras at the event - sorry folks!)
Adele
Lewis Hamilton
Sarah Jessica Parker
Jonathan Ross

After this I figured I’d pop into McDonalds for a quick snack…yes, my non-existent diet has totally gone out of the window.  I’m more of a KFC girl myself to be honest but McD’s was a lot closer so went for the lazy option. (Lazy and greasy, help me! Lol!) Sometimes, I’m not sure if I have the best friends ever or  just the worst (I love them all the same!). They’re so supportive and encouraging with everything I do – which you would think is a good thing but when you’re not sure if you should get three ice-creams, go large with your meal and get an extra portion of chips, encouragement is the last thing you need.  I ended the night feeling sick from eating too much ice cream, okay maybe the extra chips and the large meal added to that too but I definitely think it was the ice cream that tipped the edge.

Still, it was a great evening! I LOVE LOVE LOVE Adele!!!
